From runners to triathletes and swimmers, if you’re in for the long haul, endurance sports nutrition can be a useful addition to an athlete’s diet. These products can be consumed before, during and/or after your training and typically focus on delivering carbohydrates.
 

Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes

Every sport that has a duration of around two hours or more, can be referred to as an endurance sport. If you’re training for a marathon or triathlon, you can add sports nutrition for endurance athletes to your nutrition plan, both during training and on race day. Or, if you are training for an ambitious cycling adventure like mounting the Alpe d’Huez, endurance cycling nutrition can support your training and recovery.
 

Nutrition products for endurance athletes

Bars and gels are the nutrition products of choice for many endurance athletes. Drinks offer another source of nutrition. They provide fluid, electrolytes and carbohydrates. Carbohydrate-electrolyte solutions help maintain performance during prolonged endurance exercise; these solutions also enhance the absorption of water during physical exercise. Carbohydrate-electrolyte solutions can only carry this name if they meet strict requirements; at least 75 % of the energy should be derived from carbohydrates and they should contain 80-350 kcal/L from carbohydrates. Endurance nutrition in the form of bars, gels and drinks are your on-the-go nutrient sources that support your intake before, during and after that race or training session; they also help aid recovery.
